The Nautilus
Process
Imagine the stress of your work day melting away as you return home to your own personal oasis. Whether your dream home includes a state-of-the-art kitchen, an addition where the whole family can come together, or simply a well-done bathroom, Nautilus Builders can make your vision a reality. And getting started is easier than you may think. That’s because we serve as your partner throughout the entire process.
How do I get started?
Just call us at 301-864-8086 during our office hours (Monday –Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM). In this call, we may all decide that it makes sense to meet in person to discuss your project. Our meeting hours are from 6:30 AM until 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. Please be sure to have a date and time in mind that will permit all decision makers to be present for the 1 to 2 hours that this meeting usually takes.
How do I prepare for this meeting?
The best way to prepare for this meeting is to develop a clear set of written goals — what it is that you wish to accomplish. This does not mean that you must have rough plans drawn or even conceived. What it does mean is that you should be able to communicate ideas such as “my kitchen is outdated,” or “my home is way too small for my growing family.” It is also helpful for you to prepare a list of several categories of items:
| |
|
| |
|
Items that must be included in the scope
of work. |
|
|
Things that would be nice to have. |
|
|
Luxury items that you might call your “dream list.” |
|
|
|
|
It is also helpful to list items that must be changed,
some people call this their “hate list” |
| |
You should also give some thought to how much you are prepared to invest (in round numbers) for your project. We do not expect you be an expert on construction costs, but you should be prepared to discuss an amount that makes sense so we can balance your project scope and your budget.
No sales pressure — period!
There
will be no sales pressure. At any time during our visit, if either of us feels that we do not have a fit for any reason, we can agree to end the meeting and part friends. On the other hand, we might decide that it makes sense to move on to the next step, which is usually a design agreement.
Design.
At this point, we have reached an agreement based on your target budget, and now we begin make your dreams happen. With one of our AIA-certified architects, we will develop multiple concepts that explore different solutions for your project needs. This will usually take three meetings, and the final product is selected by considerations of style, materials, and budget.
Building phase.
In this phase you will see the professionalism of Nautilus Builders; we will show that “Excellence-On time-On budget” is not just a slogan—it is real. You will never have to worry about “disappearing contractor syndrome”. Customers often mention how much they appreciate our accessibility and how well and often we communicate with them.

"Nautilus built for us a beautiful, massive three story addition. Home construction projects can be very stressful and disruptive on a family’s life. At every stage of the process from design to the final trim work, Nautilus Builder’s president Bob Lipovsky communicated clearly, listened attentively, changed directions rapidly at our request and was always gracious, friendly and professional. Bob made every effort to minimize the disruption, even to memorizing the route to the hospital in case my pregnant wife went into labor while I was at work! If we had to go through it all again, I can say without hesitation that we would hire Nautilus Builders."
